Serenity Sunday: COME AS YOU ARE (2nd February 2014)

Good morrrrrrrrninggggg, everyone! And Happy Month of Love!!! ^_^

It’s a fine Sunday morning and I just want to share with y'all how I feel right now. I feel so blessed. Don’t you feel so blessed today, too? I woke up and… yes! That’s it! I. WOKE. UP. Isn’t it amazing, you guys?!? I’m still alive! I’m still breathing. I’m given another day to experience God’s miracles. The sun is up, the wind is blowing and I’m alive and kicking! I feel so blessed for being able to live another day. Another day to live as God’s child. Another day to live as a wife, a sister, a friend, a dreamer, a wanderer… another day to live as MYSELF. :)

You know what? Today, I’m gonna tell you a story. There’s this one story I heard when I was younger (yeah... like over a decade ago - I’m really old, so what?! LOL). And I’m gonna share it with you the way I remember it. Here goes:

***
There was once a painter who wandered out in the streets hoping to see an inspiration for his new masterpiece. While he was walking, he passed by a man who seemed like a beggar because of the way he looked, dressed and acted.

Suddenly, the painter knew what he’s going to paint. He approached the beggar, and asked him if he could be his model for his new masterpiece. With a happy heart and an evidently excited face, the man granted the painter’s request.

The painter asked the man to come to his studio later in the day and the man agreed. Later that day, the painter heard someone knocking on the door. He was ecstatic because he knew that it’s the man from the streets whom he asked to be his model. When he opened the door, a very well-dressed man with neatly combed hair and clean face beheld his eyes. The painter asked who the man was and when the man introduced himself, the painter was in shock.

He tried to immediately recover from his shock and politely asked the man to come inside but the disappointment in his eyes cannot be concealed. The man noticed and asked him what’s wrong.

The painter answered with a question, “What happened?”

The man was confused, so he asked, “What do you mean, sir?”

The painter replied, “You look… so different.”

And the man cheered up because he thought that was a compliment. He said excitedly, “When you asked me to be your model this morning, it’s the happiest moment of my life, because finally there will be a meaning for my existence. Finally, someone saw me. Someone is interested in me. So I asked some kind-hearted people I know to help me look good… look my best. I took a bath, borrowed clothes from some people I know, combed my hair and cleansed my face. I wanted to be the perfect model. I wanted to impress you, sir.”

The painter bowed his head for a moment and when he looked up, he touched the man’s shoulders. He said, “You didn’t have to do anything to impress me. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to come as you are. That’s all I wanted.”

And that’s how God is to us. I feel so blessed knowing that I can come to God whenever I want, wherever I am, whatever I’m doing, no matter what I’m wearing. I can come to Him as my bare self and He will gladly accept me with arms opened wide. Knowing how gracious our God is and how unconditional His love is for you and for me is enough reason for me to feel so blessed today.

Let me end this post with this song from Jaci Velasquez. Have a blessed Sunday, everyone!

Isaiah 1:18 (ESV)
“'Come now, let us reason together,' says the Lord:
'though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.'"
